Architecture that Settles into the Slope

JC House is a private residence in Malaysia shaped by a three-tiered contoured site and a design approach that balances spatial experience, feng shui principles, and tropical responsiveness. Rather than flattening the land, the house is composed as a series of stepped volumes that follow the natural slope, allowing the architecture to sit comfortably within its terrain while maintaining generous proportions despite a dense program.

The ground level accommodates service functions—including garage, gym, lift, and circulation—forming a solid base that supports the main living spaces above. Living, dining, office, and guest areas are arranged around courtyards, terraces, and water elements, fulfilling feng shui requirements while enhancing light, airflow, and spatial continuity. Upper levels house private bedrooms, carefully positioned according to orientation and tradition. Through layered massing, controlled transparency, and filtered screens, Knoll unfolds gradually—revealing openness, calm, and connection to garden, water, and sky.
